Yokne’am, Israel – October 19, 2005 – SURF Communication Solutions® (“Surf”), established in 1996 and now a leading developer of high–capacity multimedia processing boards for the telecommunication infrastructure field, announced today that it has secured a round of funding with the participation of Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), Giza Venture Capital (leaders of the round), Pitango Venture Capital, and others.
The funding will be used to expand the Company’s presence in various regions, with emphasis on the North American market, to duplicate Surf’s successful track record in the European market. This will be achieved through a program of direct sales and marketing efforts, as well as through cultivation of distribution channels. In addition, the company plans to accelerate the development process of Surf’s product line, including integration of Surf’s media processing enabling technologies with boards from additional carrier manufacturers.
“For the past two years Surf has focused its strategy on areas of high market demand where we bring significant and unique added value. We call it our ‘unfair advantage’,” said Eyal Zagagi, President and CEO of Surf. “These efforts have resulted in a focused strategy related to the Triple-Play market: primarily combined Voice and Video media processing simultaneously on a single DSP and packaged on integrated hardware/software platforms. Our customers report that Surf’s products save them immense time and expense in their race to capture the market. We are further bolstered by the fact that TI as well as our VC investors have placed this investment.”
Surf’s products, which are optimized for gateway applications and CTI (Computer Telephony Integration), including messaging, streaming, recording and conferencing, are comprised of completely integrated hardware/software sub-systems that run voice, video, fax and modem simultaneously on the same DSP (Digital Signal Processor), TI’s TMS320C64x™ DSP generation.
“As a valued member of TI’s third party program, Surf’s dedicated efforts to lead the wave of triple play media processing based on our C64x DSP led us to re’invest in their latest round of funding,” said Joseph Rigazio, General Manager, DSP Systems Catalog and Emerging End Equipments for TI. “We are confident that Surf’s current strategy will promote the success of packet–based voice and video applications that utilize TI’s DSPs to their fullest potential. Together we will provide customers with a wide range of powerful yet flexible DSP solutions for today’s burgeoning telecom markets.”
Surf offers its products on variety of platforms, including a DSP farm on AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card). The AMC form factor has recently emerged as the leading standard in this field, and has been adopted by various carrier boards’ manufacturers who focus on platforms such as AdvancedTCA®, MicroTCA®, and IBM BladeCenter®. Other platforms supported by Surf products include PCI boards, PTMC DSP farms, and DSPs. In addition, Surf has cooperation agreements with cPCI and ATCA manufacturers to provide integrated solutions with Surf's PTMC/AMC daughter cards riding on cPCI and ATCA carriers.
“We opted to leave the round open to enable additional investors to participate. We anticipate that some of the groups with which we are already in touch will decide to join Surf’s current shareholders and investors shortly,” added Mr. Zagagi.
The current round of funding follows three previous rounds, the last of which closed in November, 2001. Among Surf’s other shareholders: Intel Capital, Motorola Ventures (Freescale), Sadot R&D Fund Ltd., and B.O.S. – Better On–line Solutions.
