Surf Communication Solutions Utilizes TI’s Latest DSP for Converged Distribution of High Density Audio & Video Applications for IMS, Media Gateway and Server Solutions

Surf’s media processing solutions, based on TI’s TMS320C6455 DSP with the new C64x+™ core, provide the extra processing performance required by video applications while maintaining the current form factor, enabling higher densities and improved quality

FALL VON 2006, BOSTON, MA, September 12, 2006 - SURF Communication Solutions (“Surf”), a leading provider of high-capacity multimedia processing boards for the telecommunication infrastructure field, today announced that it has leveraged TI’s TMS320C6455 DSP to promote the development of open architecture, multimedia processing solutions for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks. Surf has integrated the new TI DSP into its AMC mezzanine card and chip-level multimedia processing products, to support the development of high density Telco-Grade media gateway and media server subsystems that deliver audio, video, fax and modem over IMS, mobile, wireline, and wireless networks.

TI’s TMS320C6455 DSP satisfies the need for high-performance, flexible and scalable silicon, facilitating reduced development costs and time-to-market. It encompasses tremendous multi-processing system performance and increased memory (2MB of L2 memory) into one single device, allowing developers of video applications to implement Surf’s advanced transcoding, transrating and mixing capabilities without sacrificing board real estate.

Surf’s SurfRider/AMC™, an AMC mezzanine card featuring a modular plug-in that carries up to four pairs of DSPs, now supports the C6455. The resulting total of eight C6455 DSPs per AMC board leads to unprecedented processing power, ideal for converged distribution of high density audio and video applications. In line with the trend of moving from proprietary architectures to industry standards, the SurfRider/AMC mezzanine cards are pre-integrated with leading manufacturers’ ATCA and MicroTCA carrier boards and blades.

“Our AMC solution, based on the TI C6455 DSP, offers our customers unparalleled levels of voice and video channel processing densities,” said Lior Fite, VP Marketing at Surf. “Combined with the level of standardization and robustness offered through our innovative AMC board design, Surf’s customer can implement systems for the IMS market which meet the Telco’s requirements with a minimum amount of effort.”

Ongoing voice and video conferencing/streaming demonstrations, based on the newly released platform, can be viewed in the Surf booth (#765) at the VON Fall Expo taking place in Boston, Massachusetts from September 12-14.
